Career Resources on the Internet
The following is a selection
of Web resources that will help young people learn about career
options in the sciences. This list was compiled for SETQuest, an
Educational Film Center project funded by the National Science Foundation,
by the editors of SB&F.
Acoustics
and You (A Career in Acoustics?)
Acoustical Society of
America hosts this page, which introduces young people to a career
in acoustics
Aquatic
Science Career Information
The American Society
of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO) is often asked how students
can prepare for careers in aquatic science. This paper provides
answers to the most frequently asked questions. It also contains
a list of colleges and universities that offer degrees in aquatic
science.
ASTC:
Behind the Scenes
Information about the
different career options available at a science center, created
by the Association of Science and Technology Centers. This includes
information about careers such as marketing, education, and outreach,
as well as exhibit writers, designers, and curators.
Career
and Educational Guidance Library
This is an excellent
resource maintained by the University of California at Berkeley.
It contains links that provide access to occupational information
and listings of educational preparation program. Information of
special interest to multicultural populations is identified by a
special icon. This page contains links to literally hundreds of
careers, many of them related to science, mathematics, and technology.
Marine
Science Careers
This site will introduce
you marine science fields and to scientists in them. It will also
provide information on salaries and links to additional resources.
The
National Athletic Trainers' Association
A Certified Athletic
Trainer is a highly educated and skilled professional specializing
in athletic health care. This Web site provides a great deal of
information about a career in this exciting area.
A
New Universe to Explore: Careers in Astronomy
An online career booklet
from the American Astronomical Society. It provides advice on which
courses to pursue in high school, college, and graduate school.
The site also gives young people an idea of the different types
of work environments in which astronomers work.
The
Nobel Prize Internet Archive
A reference guide to
past and present winners of the Nobel Prize for Peace, Literature,
Medicine, Physics, Chemistry, and Economics. A separate page for
each prize lists the year, winner, and basis for the award (e.g.
1985 Nobel Prize in Physics: Klaus von Klitzing of Germany, "for
the discovery of the quantized Hall effect"). Most of the winners'
names are hyperlinked to a short biography.
Ocean
Science Careers
This site provides links
to careers resources in ocean science compiled by the Ocean Sciences
Teacher Resource Center.
Saludos
Web
A World Wide Web site
devoted exclusively to promoting Hispanic careers and education,
supported by Saludos Hispanos magazine.
Soil
and Crop Sciences--Careers with a Future
This online brochure
from Colorado State University's Department of Soil and Crop Sciences
introduces high school students to a variety of fields such as Soil
Resources and Conservation and International Soil and Crop Sciences.
